A George III satinwood and mahogany bonheur du jour, or secretary, of superb figure and colour, the shell inlaid cabinet doors opening on to a fully fitted interior of drawers and pigeonholes, above a foldover writing flap and single drawer mounted with original Old Sheffield silver plate handles, the legs similarly headed with fine shell inlays. A similar interior is shown in a secretary stamped Gillows in Margaret Jourdain's "Georgian Cabinet Makers".
