ALBERT LUDOVICI Jnr RBA
1852 - 1932
Horse and Rider in a Park (Hyde Park)
Signed
Oil on canvas
Original gilt frame
A genre painter: son of Albert Ludovici (q.v.). Exhib, mainly at SS (147 works) also at RA 1880 – 1897, NWS, GG and elsewhere. Ludovici fell under the spell of Whistler (q.v.) while the latter was President of the RBA. His pictures show Whistler’s influence, particularly his London scenes, which are painted in a delicately impressionistic style. Like his father Ludovici lived mostly in Paris, and his pictures of London life do reflect something of the Parisian boulevard gaiety of the period. Titles at the RA; ‘Dreamland’, ‘A Victim of Fashion’, ‘The Park’, ‘The Grey Lady’, etc. Ludovici was also a member of the International Society of Painters, Sculptors and Engravers.
