James Webb (1825&nbsp;- 1895) was born in Chelsea in London. This pleasing painter especially liked dramatic coastal scenes for his subjects. He first exhibited at The Royal Academy in 1853 and then most years until 1888, The British Institution, The Royal Society of British Artists, Glasgow Institute of Fine Art and many others. Painted scenes in England and Wales, Holland and France and also views on the Rhine. He painted in a robust, naturalistic style using a pale range of colours. Possibly influenced by Turner. Works by him are in the Tate Gallery, the Victoria and Albert and nearly all the provincial galleries.
